About the studio
Good Neighborly Terraces grew from a simple frustration: indoor designers treating balconies as leftover strips for leftover chairs. Founders Inés Molina and Tomas Bergqvist met while documenting railing heights across Eixample blocks for a university climate studio, then stayed in Valencia because the light kept teaching them something new.
Why neighbourly is in the name
Outdoor rooms sit inside a social stack. Water that drips, smoke that rises, and screens that block someone’s sky all become neighbour issues faster than indoor paint colours. We design as if the people above and below will review the outcome — because often they do.
A balcony that only pleases its owner usually fails the building.
That ethic shapes plant choices, drip trays, quiet chair legs, and the patience to seek community approval before buying permanent hardware.
Two disciplines at one table
Inés trained in landscape architecture with a focus on Mediterranean drought plantings. Tomas comes from residential interiors and is the one who argues about door swings and cushion storage. Together they refuse to separate “pretty pots” from “will this still work in August.”
Associates join for larger installs: a joiner for custom benches, a waterproofing contact for failing membranes, and a nursery that understands rail weight. The studio itself stays small so visits remain personal.
Learning from Valencia weather
Local wind corridors, salt near the port, and the sudden intensity of July sun are not abstract climate slides — they are weekly field notes. We keep a shared log of which fabrics faded, which clamps loosened, and which citrus survived a dry spell with only weekend watering.
Shade is a kindness; airflow is a necessity.
Clients benefit from that scrapbook. Recommendations lean on what we have watched fail and recover on real ledges, not on catalogue promises alone.
Studio on Calle de Colón
Our table lives at Calle de Colón 60, close enough to walk to many Eixample sites with a tape measure in the bag. Drawings happen here; most decisions still happen standing on your outdoor floor with chalk and coffee.
We work Tuesday to Friday, 10:00–18:00, and hold Saturday morning appointments when working clients cannot visit midweek. Languages in the room: Spanish, English, and enough Valencian for community meetings.
Who we take on
Flats with usable outdoor space — even tiny ones — are our focus. We decline villa gardens and commercial rooftops that need full landscape teams; those deserve specialists with different tools.
If your ledge is half a metre deep and mostly occupied by an AC unit, we will still tell you honestly what can improve and what cannot. Clarity beats a forced commission.
